something from nothing

a 1980s gray leather jacket = simple tote

and a tiny, funny-shaped new pouch for carrying laundry money:

jeans that never fit well = favorite-fitting cutoffs (how is that possible?):

and completely unwearable sheer knit skirt = cafe curtain:

we are gonna have a garden party

this breathtaking photo by Hanneli Mustaparta blew me away...
models at the Stella McCartney Resort presentation in nyc

such beautiful botanical prints in that collection!

i thought i was just getting in the swing of summer 2010; it's funny to be craving concepts that are supposed to be for three seasons from now.

i guess these are kind of goofy, but i really do love the prints:

this whole mood makes me think of
John Singer Sargent's Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose
drawings by Hugo Guinness
gorgeous flower paintings by Leanne Shapton

i'll stick with the ones above, but i like the simplicity of these designer ones, too:

speaking of rennes, i purchased this rennes pencil case last year, and it's the best. it's where i keep all of my favorite pens. (ballpoint bics get the jar by the sink.)

stamp

my landlord must be so surprised when he gets my rent checks in the mail.
i love these stamps, but failed to notice the hearts on them, and the dotted tape (which i used to tape down the curling-up edges of the envelope) was the only tape in the house.

i wonder if he thinks i have a crush on him?

leopard and red

These two outfits recently caught my eye. I love the bits of red and leopard print together.

the dude abides

BREAKING NEWS
I was looking for something else entirely when I stumbled across this picture of Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski:
...and realized that the colors of his outfit are really similar to some of the pictures from my last post.

What does this say about contemporary fashion? Probably nothing, but I was still excited.

quilter's corner

I bought this quilted jacket from Salvation Army a few years ago. I love the print, but it's a little bit big, so I'm currently trying to alter it with my Hello Kitty sewing machine...
I can see why my boyfriend called this my pot holder jacket.

I think this girl's wearing a really cute (quilted?) jacket

Not quilted, but Rachel Comey showed a kind of tapestry-like patterned jacket for spring 2010. She also made backpacks and clutches from a similar material.

The colors of this robe on etsy reminds me a bit of the Rachel Comey.
It's cotton/poly, and really big, but it's only $10!

made in heaven, baby

My very old, perfect-fitting Earl jeans are all busted. They were the best-fitting jeans in the world for me, and I'm having a hard time getting dressed without them. I found them all in secret spots - two pair at Beacon's Closet, one pair at Off 5th on lark in my hometown - and they really were the best.

I think MiH jeans would be a good replacement.

See the whole spring/summer collection here

I found this nice feature about Chloe Lonsdale, the designer of MiH, on their twitter page.
Because when I love something I go crazy over-researching it.

Ms. Lonsdale's parents, who owned a denim shop in the '70s.
(I wouldn't mind looking like that in overalls! Or this.)
